Have you experienced two or more periods of feeling sad, down, or depressed in your life, or simply feeling not interested in activities you usually enjoy doing? These periods may range from two weeks to months or years. If you have these experiences, you might be eligible to participate in the Emotion & Mental Health Lab at Washington University's study which explores how people think, feel, and make decisions. There are three parts to the study:

  • An online survey (about 30 min)
  • Laboratory session (1-2 hours)
  • Brief cell phone surveys (5 surveys a day for 2 weeks)

The study involves completing an online survey and attending a laboratory session, which consists of an interview determining eligibility for the remaining parts of the study. Those who are eligible will be invited to complete another online survey and a tutorial at the laboratory session, as well as brief cell phone surveys about their emotions, thoughts, and decision-making in the two weeks following the laboratory session. This is a paid study. In addition to the emotional experiences, other eligibility criteria include:

  • Participants must be between 38 and 77 years old
  • Speak English as your primary language
